E.ON Bulgaria hands over the keys to the new houses

A donation of 500 000 Euro utilized in more than 200 projects

Today in the municipality building of Glavinitsa, District of Silistra were presented the results specific for the district of the project for support of regions in distress.

Mr. Ralph Pesch, member of the Management Board of E.ON Bulgaria, handed over to families affected by last year’s floods, a symbolic key to their new homes.

Abundant rains in the summer of 2005 brought about heavy floods in the whole of the country. At the background of this dire situation E.ON Bulgaria, with the support of the mother company E.ON Energie, Munich succeeded in a short time and in a bureaucracy-free manner to broker financial help to the tune of 500 000 Euro.

“We are happy that with our help here more than 40 suffering families, whose houses were destroyed by the natural disaster, received new homes” said Mr. Pesch.

The funds for these particular projects in the District of Silistra amount to 220 000 BGN.

The decisions on the selection of each of these projects have been made by a committee set up together with representatives of the Bulgarian Red Cross.

“We are glad that in the face of the Bulgarian Red Cross we have found a competent and acknowledged partner with extensive experience in the realisation of donations related projects” Mr. Pesch said, thanking the Bulgarian Red Cross on his behalf and on behalf of his colleagues from the Management Board of E.ON Bulgaria for the good cooperation.

Projects for the support of people suffering from the devastating floods have been successfully implemented in the regions of Veliko Tarnovo, Ruse, Shumen, Targovishte, Dobrich and Razgrad, their total number exceeding 200.

The major part of the donation has been earmarked for the purchase of houses. Another part of the funds was utilised for supporting the reconstruction of partly demolished houses, public establishment buildings, including kindergartens on the territory of North-Eastern Bulgaria.

At the first official event on the occasion of the implementation of the donation, which was held in the beginning of May in Ruse a multitude of families from the Ruse District had the chance to enjoy their new houses. The funds for the realisation of these particular projects amounted to 153 000 BGN.

“As a Bulgarian company we have special responsibilities towards society and its welfare in Bulgaria. We are glad that with our donation we succeeded to provide sustained support to the affected families in the building of their homes and the removal of the afflicted damages”, said Mr. Pesch.

E.ON Bulgaria is the majority holder of 59% stake in EDC Varna and EDC Gorna Oriahovitsa. In total the two companies realize annual sales of electricity of nearly 4.9 TWh, supply more than 1.1 million customers and maintain about 40 000 km of electric power supply networks.
