E.ON donated 500 000 euro to the people who suffered from the floods - Mr. Manfred Paasch, Chairman of the Management Board, visited the affected regions
Mr. Manfred Paasch, chairman of the Management Board of E.ON Bulgaria, visited today, together with the Minister of
economy and energy Rumen Ovcharov, the regions affected by the floods.
E.ON Bulgaria and E.ON Energie donated 500 000 euro aid for the reconstruction works needed for those affected by the heavy floods in Bulgaria.
"An important aspect of the social policy of a global company is to be aware of your own social role and to support the people in need", said
Mr. Manfred Paasch, chairman of the Management Board of E.ON Bulgaria EAD.
E.ON Bulgaria considers providing the aid mainly to the worst affected regions - Targovishte and Veliko Tarnovo.
"We want to provide this aid to the people in distress quickly and efficiently", emphasized Mr. Paasch. "Today I had the opportunity personally to visit the places of the disaster and to see for myself the catastrophic consequences from the floods. I am deeply shocked by the dimension of the caused damages. The dramatic situation here, in Bulgaria, is reminiscent of the scenes of devastation after the floods of the river Elba in Germany and the tsunami disaster in Asia."
E.ON Bulgaria is in close contact with the Bulgarian Red Cross and the Civil Protection State Agency. Together with these two organizations they are going to establish joint committees that will exert joint efforts for the aid to be directed only towards projects, which will directly and efficiently support the people and buildings affected by the flood, including schools, kindergartens and social institutions.
The greatest part of the donation is intended for purchase of houses, which can be offered to the people who were left without homes in the eve of the forthcoming winter. The rest of the funds will be used to support the new construction of partially destroyed private and public buildings.
E.ON Bulgaria believes that with the cooperation and support of Civil Protection, the Bulgarian Red Cross and the
Prime minister and the Minister of economy and energy with the aid granted there will be specific aid projects implemented in a time-efficient and unbureaucratic way.
E.ON Bulgaria was founded as early as February 2005. Nevertheless,
the main aspect of the philosophy of this youngest member of the E.ON
concern is to be conscious of its social and public responsibility. E.ON does not stand only for a global company, operating beyond national borders. E.ON is much more than that: a multinational group, which is well aware of its commitment and obligation in every region where it is represented.
"As a Bulgarian company, E.ON Bulgaria fully recognizes its huge responsibility in this country: we deeply believe that with this donation, supported by our mother company E.ON Energie, we will be able to help those in need in the regions affected by the floods", stressed
Mr. Manfred Paasch.
At the beginning of 2005 E.ON Bulgaria acquired 59% of Electricity Distribution Company Varna and Electricity Distribution Company Gorna Oriahovitsa. The two companies have a total of annual sales volumes amounting to approximately 4.8 TWh, they supply more than 1.1 million customers with electricity and maintain about 40 000 km of electricity distribution grid.
