E.ON Bulgaria Grid is the successor of the former electricity distribution companies in Varna and Gorna Oryahovitsa and operates on the energy market following the legal unbundling of the distribution and supply activities as from 1 January 2007. Majority owner of E.ON Bulgaria Grid is E.ON Bulgaria EAD holding 59% of the shares, 33% of the shares are held by the government of the Republic of Bulgaria and 8% of the shares are held by the European Bank for Restoration and Development.

In 2010 E.ON Bulgaria Grid AD delivered 5.3 TWh electricity to 1.1 million customers on the territory of the districts Varna, Dobrich, Shumen, Targovishte, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Razgrad, Ruse and Silistra. The company maintains about 42 000 km of electricity distribution network at high-, medium- and low voltage, 26 substations HV/MV and over 12 000 transformer stations.

In the territory covered by its distributional; grid the company provides for:

  • management of distribution grid;
  • electricity supply to consumers connected to the distribution grid;
  • maintenance of facilities and equipment in compliance with the technical requirements;
  • development of distribution grid in conformity with the perspectives for economic development and forecasts for the changes of electricity demands in the region;
  • continuity of electricity supply and quality of supplied electricity;
  • other services provided to consumers.

The company works to continuously extend and modernize its grid; to improve security and reliability of electricity supply with the aim of reaching high European standards.
