E.ON is one of the world's largest investor-owned power and gas companies. At facilities across Europe, Russia, and North America, our more than 85,000 employees generated just under EUR93 billion in sales in 2010. We have an ambitious objective: to make energy cleaner and better wherever we operate. And that is the motto of our new strategy - cleaner & better energy - which will transform E.ON into a global provider of specialized energy solutions. Going forward, we intend to expand our business outside Europe. The new E.ON will benefit our employees, customers, and investors alike.
E.ON AG in Düsseldorf serves as Group Management, which oversees and coordinates the operations of the entire Group. These operations are segmented into global units (by function) and regional units (by country). We have five global units: Generation, Renewables, New Build & Technology, Global Gas, and Trading. Twelve regional units in Europe manage our sales operations, regional energy networks, and distributed-generation businesses in their respective countries. We're also engaged in power generation and wholesale power marketing in Russia, a special-focus country. We created a new unit, E.ON International Energy, to expand our business outside Europe. It will leverage our expertise in conventional and renewable power generation to regions where energy demand is growing rapidly. Group-wide entities deliver support functions like IT and procurement.
