It is usually required that we know the exact meaning of frequently used terms. We have compiled a list of most frequently used terms in energy-related fields:
Electricity distribution network
Power
Electricity transmission network
Electrical energy system
Energy
Point of connection
Eligible customer
Nighttime tariff
Daytime tariff
Price of electricity distribution
Electricity distribution network
The electricity distribution network is the set of electrical lines and
electrical installations operating under high, medium or low voltage, which
serves for distribution of electricity. (Please refer to Energy Act)
Power
For household consumers the electricity consumed may be calculated according the following formula:
A=U*I*t
U – voltage (in Volts)
I – current (in Amperes)
Т – period of time (in hours)
U*I represents the electricity power (in Watts). Where the phase voltage of the
network is 230 V and we consume current of 2 А, for 5 hours we consume in
total (230*2*5), or 2300 W/h, i.e. 2.3 kWh (kilowatt hours).
Electricity transmission network
The electricity transmission network is the set of electrical lines and
electrical installations serving to transmit electricity to consumers. (Please refer to Energy Act)
Electrical energy system
All energy related sites on the territory of the country are related and
function in common electrical energy system and uninterrupted process of
generation, conversion, transfer and distribution and use of electrical
power. The electrical energy system includes power stations, transmission
network, individual distribution networks and electrical installations of
consumers. (Please refer to Energy Act)
Energy
The following types of energy exist:
- Mechanical energy;
- Thermal energy (heat);
- Chemical energy;
- Energy of physical connection;
- Electro-magnetic energy;
- Electrical energy (electricity).
Energy is measured in joules. The joule is the energy corresponding to the work completed with power 1 Newton on trajectory of 1 meter.
Point of connection
The point of connection is the place where a customer is connected to the
electrical network.
Eligible customer
An eligible customer is a customer, natural or legal entity, who meets the
requirements of the legal instruments in force, the technical rules of the
networks according to art. 83, par. 1, p. 4 – 6 Energy Act and the Rules for
electricity trade, related to connection to the electricity transmission and
electricity distribution networks with measuring of the electricity quantity
and with the registration on the market of balance electricity and received
an approval of the SWERC for its Application for registration on the free
market.
Right to become eligible customers have:
- from the 1.1.2007- all business customers;
- from 1.7.2007.- all customers.
Nighttime tariff (NT)
The night time tariff is the time span when the electricity distribution
network is less loaded because of suspension of the operation of big
industrial sites. For balancing of the load of the electricity distribution
network during the whole time, electricity distribution companies motivate
their customers to use electricity during these periods by offering it at
lower prices.
Daytime tariff (DT)
Daytime tariff applies during the period outside nighttime tariff. The electricity consumed during this period is charged at
a higher price.
Price of electricity distribution
The distribution price of
electrical energy is the price for transmission of electricity through the
electricity distribution grid till its
transformation
according to §17 of the FTP (final and transitional provisions) of the EA.
